Home Hotlist: Green DC Realty
Realtor Michael Kiefer unearths eco-friendly architecture, such as this home from Bethesda Bungalows, for green-minded clients.
Even for design enthusiasts, buying an eco-friendly pad can be tricky. Enter Michael Kiefer, DC's first realtor focused on green properties. A former contractor, Kiefer founded Green DC Realty in 2006 with the aim of applying his know-how to support architects and house hunters alike. Using area design blogs, he writes about sustainable projects - such as The Incredibly Green Home from LEED-certified Bethesda Bungalows - creating a forum for creators and consumers. "Buying a green home isn't just an aesthetic choice - it's a lifestyle decision," Kiefer says. "People want to know the environmental benefits and stories behind these buildings. So, I help developers convey the value of their work, while helping hopeful buyers find the home that best suits their green-community needs."
